Michael D. Boekholder is a 30+ year veteran of the sports turf industry and President of Boekholder & Associates. His extensive career in professional grounds management started in the Short-Season “A” Northwest League of Professional Baseball with the Yakima Bears, an affiliate of the Los Angles Dodgers. He served as the Head Groundskeeper for both the Durham Bulls and Indianapolis Indians, winning eight consecutive “Groundskeeper of the Year” awards in nine seasons as well as two “Triple-A Sports Turf Manager of the Year” awards. In 2003, he was named Director, Field Operations for the Philadelphia Phillies in preparation for the opening of Citizens Bank Park in April of 2004. He served in that role until his retirement from professional baseball in April of 2022.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Boekholder has gained a vast knowledge of both athletic surface maintenance and construction. He is an industry-leading speaker and educator. In 2008, he founded Boekholder & Associates LLC, with the goal of providing customer-focused consulting and design services to the sports industry.
Mr. Boekholder is a 1996 graduate of Central Washington University with a degree in Administrative (Office) Management. He holds a Delaware Nutrient Management Consultant certification through the Delaware Department of Agriculture.
